It all started in JUVI...

My first gig out of school was an associateship at a high-end private practice. I was ecstatic!

But a year later I was out of work (too few patients, plus I sucked at case acceptance).

I hustled for 3 months. No one was hiring. Defeated, I took a job at JUVI... a decision that would change my life 👇🏽

All I had was RESIN... 

As the saying goes, necessity is the mother of invention... and I had composite. That's it.

In JUVI, everything is ext or filling. Far from the glamour of private practice, I'd been demoted and felt like a failure.

I'd scroll social, watching classmates crush it, scratch practices and live my dream while I was stuck in a reject cell with carpules of A2 and no windows. I preferred windows.

Until one day a 14yo kid named Taylor sat in my chair. #23-26 were fractured. He was the newbie and a gang had singled him out. In tears he asked me, "Can I stay in here?"

That messed me up... and changed me.

There I was, feeling bad for myself while a kid half my age was grateful just to be safe for a while. I realized then, comparison can either steal your joy... or give you purpose.

And so it BEGAN...

I chose then and there to saddle up, drop $2,500 and enroll in a CE on resin artistry.

It wasn't about being the best or earning more to me either (let's be real, I was making $50/hr in public health and Class IV's don't pay loans)...

I just wanted to push myself, find a growth edge and enjoy going to work again.

And it worked. Class IV's led to photography, then occlusion, resin veneers and ultimately full arch cosmetic & REGEN dentistry.

In the years that followed, I was the youngest instructor in the CEE's history (2017), got the cover of The JCD for a novel approach to Class IV's (2018), taught  hands-on workshops at the AACD and began a little CE start-up with my wife, now globally known as THRIVE.

I now have toys I'd only dreamt of having in JUVI:  scanners, printers, a mill...

But honestly, not a day goes by when I don't break out my composite to turn tragic into magic! FRKTR is my homage to the technique that changed my life.
